Philip Morris is the largest tobacco company in the world (excluding the Chinese National Tobacco Corporation). Its portfolio of international and local brands is sold in over 180 countries and is led by the world’s best-selling cigarette brand, Marlboro.

A Brief History on Philip Morris

The company was founded by Philip Morris in 1847 and is headquartered in New York, USA, but also based operationally in Lausanne, Switzerland and Hong Kong.

The company’s history began in 1847, when London tobacconist Philip Morris opened a shop selling tobacco and cigarettes in Bond Street, London.

During the 50s, the company had been integrated into American culture, which led to the manufacture and marketing of its products globally. By the year of 1972, Marlboro had become the world’s top-selling cigarette brand.

And by 2019, the net revenue of Philip Morris worldwide exceeded $77 billion. The European Union accounted for nearly one-third of the company’s total net revenue.

Philip Morris Companies Inc. formally changed its name to the Altria Group in 2003, but by 2008, Philip Morris International resurfaced as a spin-off from Altria.

As of 2019, its main institutional investors are The Vanguard Group, Capital Research & Management, and BlackRock Fund Advisors. And in July of this year (2021), Philip Morris bought the Vectura Group for £1 billion.

Philip Morris Int. ranked No. 101 in the 2021 Fortune 500 list of the largest corporations by total revenue.

Philip Morris’ net worth as of August 04, 2021, is $155.06 billion.

How Can I Trade Philip Morris?

Philip Morris is listed as a tradable asset under the ticker PM on TIOmarkets MT4 or MT5. Like all other assets listed on our platforms, you can choose to long or short.

What Are The Best Trading Conditions?

As we’ve seen with the recent pandemic, the stock markets can be prone to large swings up or down based on economic turmoil, recovery and economic conditions.

Execution speeds: Slow order execution speeds can lead to a big difference between the price you see when you click to open a trade, and the actual price your order is opened at. This difference between prices is called “slippage”.

At TIOmarkets, we have some of the fastest execution speeds you can find, resulting in minimal slippage and more orders filled at the price you clicked.

Leverage: Normally, a large amount of starting capital is required to invest seriously in stocks and indices, because only a small amount of stocks is not likely to yield the kind of results most traders are seeking.

High leverage can greatly increase both the risk to your investment and the potential returns.

If you are comfortable with a high level of risk in return for higher potential gains, you may want to seek a leverage ratio that is commensurate with your investment goals.

Risk disclaimer: CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. You should consider whether you understand how CFDs work and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money. Never deposit more than you are prepared to lose. Professional client’s losses can exceed their deposit. Please see our risk warning policy and seek independent professional advice if you do not fully understand.
